Bit soon to be doing a new journal, but CoroCoro is a thing that happens! And all ready the internet has been hit with fanart of the leaked Pokemon. Just my thoughts:
Player characters seem older again, like Hilda and Hilbert were before. Once again, I like the female design the most, though this time it's because the male design feels like Hilbert 3.0 (with Nate being the 2.0 model). Player customization seems woefully limited, though understandable given GameFreak's insistent need to give a face to associate with the games.
In order of the Pokemon I like the most to least, it would be Elekitel > Yayakoma > Yancham > Gogoat. The lizard is an electric/normal type, which I find interesting, and just seems...endearing. The bird, although it is Normal/Fly, can learn Flame Charge, which combined with its color scheme makes me hope it becomes a fire type in evolution. The Panda doesn't really interest me one way or the other, and I'm not a big fan of goat, deer, horses, or other such designs as far as the goat is concerned.
What interests me here is that, aside from the legendaries and sort of Gogoat, the designs skew heavily towards the simplistic side. Mewtwo's alternate form, for example, simplifies Mewtwo's body shape by removing muscular definition and focusing on curves and simple shapes. Yayakoma is almost hilarious simplistic compared to the other early birds. What is this about? Well, in Gen 5, the designs started focusing a lot more on shape, color, and pattern, though the latter two were somewhat a focus of 2 and especially 3 and 4 as well. However, it used these to build into more complex shapes and Pokemon, obviously of course still having a few simplistic ones here and there. The forms are less natural than Generations 1 and 2's, but for the most part they were no more complex, save for the legendary Pokemon. This game seems to be continuing that trend, which seems to be working out pretty well here. Not many of the Pokemon we know of so far have blown me away, but the designs all work well, and aren't very offensive at all.
All in all, this was an decent batch of news. Somewhat disappointed we still have yet to get a larger burst of info, but at the very least it's kept me busy with things to think about. Personally, I can't wait to use Elekitel. What do you guys think?
